about

[We live in Apocalyptic times. We've done so, successfully thwarting doom, for more than a hundred years. Dancing above the abyss. As humans, we tend to construct narratives around things we don't understand, especially when such things appear to have an arbitrary, limitless power. Dramatic, civilization-shaking events seem too meaningful to happen by pure chance -- they seem like some sort of divine punishment. As a result, apocalypse narratives throughout history have often come with strong moral connotations. There are recurring themes in the eschatological mythology of many different cultures, often concerning a final battle between good and evil, with the righteous ascending to paradise and the latter condemned to hell. (Or, alternatively, they'll be left behind on a godless and righteous-less Earth, which is implied to be pretty much the same thing). The end of a world. While nothing is for certain, we have a number of intriguing possibilities for where the first signs of life beyond Earth might be found.]

lyrics

The end of a world

The world as we know it, will come to an end
Just stay, enjoy the show, worship the big bang
This marks the sad last day of our dna
I don’t want to miss all the great fun
when it finally blows

I’m standing at the highest point of the hill
I wish all of you could see this on TV
look at these young men trying to eat a big fish
like arctic animals they burrow through the wreckage
and their memories

the end of a world
no lights from the satellite
Soon they’ll see us from
a million miles away

the end of a world
a swirl of eerie lights
millions of them
they move like cosmic firef lies

First the lights will go out in Vegas, London, then Rome
Riot police is trying to control the unruly crowd
How much quicker can you escape what you fear?
bodies encircle a fire pit
they resemble the rays of the sun

the end of a world
no lights from the satellite
Soon they’ll see us from a million miles away

the end of a world
a swirl of eerie lights
millions of them
they move like cosmic fireflies
